Product Description

Meet Jannis and Lance Solaran, a pair of orphans who might have become heroes, if they didn't suffer from co-dependence, anti-social tendencies, and in Lance's case, rampant narcissism. But is it really their fault if the world is against them? Raised by their uncle, a powerful and evil sorcerer in a magical and deadly swamp, these two trouble-makers are finally unleashed upon the world by a poorly negotiated marriage contract. The Kingdom of Harderior is a troubled place, racked by war, and plagued by the king's obsession with magic and mages. Lance and Jannis, as archmages, are quickly drawn into both the king's plots and the nation's war, but their abnormal upbringing leads them in unexpected directions and harrowing encounters with fae and demons. The Solarans would never do things the conventional way, and the way they end the war neither nation would have expected.

I could not put this book down. As soon as I had enough money, I bought another dozen copies to pass out for Christmas presents. The main characters continuously spar with each other in a way any mother could appreciate. It brings back memories (i.e. flashbacks) of my own children. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of writing from an unknown and first time author. You don't see the kind of attention to detail in most self-published books.I am a fan of L.E. Modesitt, Jr. and have read all of his books. I would say this book is in the same vein for other fantasy fans who are looking for fresh artistry.
