Item type: Tsuba Condition: A brand-new, unused, undamaged item Material: Iron Application: Used for Katana, Wakizashi or Tanto The tsuba is usually a round or occasionally squarish guard at the end of the grip of bladed Japanese weapons, like the katana and its various declinations, tachi, wakizashi, tanto, naginata etc. They contribute to the balance of the weapon and to the protection of the hand. The tsuba was mostly meant to be used to prevent the hand from sliding onto the blade during thrusts as opposed to protecting from an opponent's blade. Tsuba are usually finely decorated, and nowadays are collectors' items. Tsuba were made by whole dynasties of craftsmen whose only craft was making tsuba. They were usually lavishly decorated. In addition to being collectors items, they were often used as heirlooms, passed from one generation to the next.

It Is Good For The Balance Of The Sword
To Protect Your Hand From Sliding Onto The Blade During Thrusts
It's black and it's iron, at least a magnet is attracted to it. It is also nice and heavy, but that might be a minus to you. I do not know how it will fit on a blade and I won't for some months, but it looks good, nice and plain.Perfect. Great price. Bought this to replace the tsuba on my highlander replica katana. Needed a little filing to get the fit, but once on, it looks great! Wouldnt hesitate to buy other items from this seller.I will use with a practice iaito. It's nicely crafted and with a little filing will fit the tang beautifully.I received this tsuba and had to hammer down the tsuba to the hilt because it was a little small but it fit together finally. Love how it looks.Love it.So much better in personIncomplete casting, horrible quality control issues. Waste of time and money.
