I bought this for one purpose. I solder a lot of battery/power connectors for RC heli/planes, but a traditional soldering iron could not produce enough heat for the large wires and connectors I am soldering. The large tip on this one will store alot of heat in the tip that smaller irons will quickly loose when touching the larger work surface. It does take a while to heat up, but I guess that would be expected. The large tip does get in the way a lot for the work I'm doing, but it is the necessary part to get the job done. Even though I wish it could get a little hotter sometimes, it still is the only one that really does the job well and is still working good. (I have had a few others that got really hot, but burned out quickly)
